Krishi Karman Awards
January 2020 PM Shri Narendra Modi gave Krishi Karman Award for progressive farmers and commendation Awards to the state at public meeting in Tumkur at Karnataka.
About Krishi Karman Awards
Krishi Karman Awards were instituted in the year 2010-11 to encourage and motivate the States to enhance production and productivity of foodgrains and individual crops of Rice, Wheat, Pulses and Coarse Cereals. Oilseeds crops were included and award amount was also enhanced since 2013-14.
There are eight awards including three for the States with highest food grains production in three identified categories
- Category I–where production is >10 million tonnes during the particular year;
- Category II–where production is between 1 -10 million tonnes during the particular year;and
- Category III-where production is <1 million tonne during the particular year and five awards for highest production under each of the individual crop of Rice,Wheat, Pulses, Coarse Cereals and Oilseeds.
States falling within the following criteria were considered:
- •For rice and wheat: States where production exceeds 10 lakh tonnes;
- •For pulses and oilseeds: States where production exceeds 2 lakh tonnes;
- •For Coarse Cereals: States where production exceeds 4 lakh tonnes.
In addition, Commendation Award will also be given to States which could not qualify for Krishi Karman Awards but achieved production and productivity higher in 2017-18 over their previous highest in 5 years.
The Award amount is Rs. 5.00 crore for total foodgrains category and Rs. 2.00 crore for individual crops category. The amount for Commendation Award is Rs. 1.00 crore for each winning State.
